Author Bio

Miriam Sue Jones Bradley has worked as a nurse for the past twenty-four years and has been heavily involved with Children’s Ministries. She has taught and led numerous children’s programs and spends as much time as possible with her twelve nieces and nephews. Miriam has a heart for children and desires to help them do new things, take initiative, and have adventures as they grow.

Miriam loves to bake and read, especially mysteries. Through her writing, Miriam strives to provide exciting, captivating, but traditional stories for children that teach the importance of family connections while establishing good Biblical and character truths. She and her husband, Dr. Bruce Bradley, make their home in Newberry, SC, where she works as a Utilization Review Nurse at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.

November 6      1:00 p.m.  Waldenbooks, Blue Ridge Mall, Hendersonville, North Carolina.

October 3            Books on Main, Newberry, South Carolina
This is Miriam's local bookstore, one of a dwindling number of independent booksellers.  This event will be part of downtown Newberry's Oktoberfest, a street fair that involves ALL of downtown Main Street and the Square.

September 26    1:00 p.m.  Waldenbooks, Rushmore Mall, Rapid City, South Dakota (confirmed date and time)

August 1-5          Custer County Fair, Broken Bow, Nebraska
The first book, The Double Cousins and the Mystery of the Missing Watch, debuts in Broken Bow.  This is appropriate and necessary because much of the background and many of the scenes are from Miriam's childhood experiences on her grandparents' ranch a few miles south.  And, perhaps most importantly, her grandmother, Mildred Jones, still lives in Broken Bow, and it is important that she be involved in as much as possible.
(Update:  Grandma Jones passed away on October 2nd, a few days after celebrating her 97th birthday.)

Speaking Engagements

Miriam has been speaking in schools about the writing process and getting a book published.  It has been GREAT FUN!  Some of the classes have even already been reading the book before she arrives, so the kids are primed and ready to go.  The schools choose the general format, either a large assembly for all classes in selected grades or speaking to individual classes, either in their classrooms or in their Library period.  It turns out that speaking to individual classes is more work but also more productive.

2011

April 9                 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.  Newberry County, SC, Girl Scouts

March 19            2:00 - 4:00 p.m.  Henderson County, NC, Girl Scouts

February 2          4:00 p.m.  Miriam spoke about her Legacy with the American Association of University Women, Newberry, SC.

2010

March 8               Upper Bucks Christian School, Sellersville, PA.  This is the school where Miriam did her student teaching.  Her supervising teacher is still at the school and Miriam spoke to her 4th-grade class, as well as the 2nd-grade class where the book was first previewed in rough draft form.

2009

November 20     Whitmire Community School, Whitmire, SC.

November 19     Reuben Elementary School, Silverstreet, SC.  Ms. Malone's 5th Grade class blogs about their school day.  For 11/19/09, Parker writes, ". . . Then we went to the library and the famous author Miriam Jones Bradley was there. . . ."  (Their blog is at http://msmalonesclass.blogspot.com/ )  This is one of the classes reading the book aloud.  When Ms. Malone stopped for the weekend at an exciting point, several of the kids got their parents to bring them to the downtown Newberry Christmas lighting so they could buy their own copies of the book while Miriam was signing books at Books on Main (see November 20, above).

November 11     Newberry Academy, Newberry, SC.

October 9           Newberry Elementary School, Newberry, SC.

September 29   Canyon Lake Elementary School, Rapid City, SD.
